Disease prevention and wellness are Patient Centric practices. The expression “Prevention of Disease” means the goal of preventing illness and other medical conditions before they turn into chronic diseases. The term is more often used in conjunction with other aspects of health and wellness.
Prevention efforts are focused on removing or modifying any of the risk factors for disease. The health care provider will focus on determining the risk factors and then seek to mitigate them. In general, the health of the patient and his family members are the primary focus of the treatment process.
Prevention efforts focus on improving the quality of life for all people in the community. It is not limited to people with any specific condition, such as heart disease or cancer. Instead, prevention efforts are aimed at improving all aspects of wellness – from diet and exercise to relationships and healthy lifestyles.
Chronic diseases can happen for many reasons. They are often an outcome of an unhealthy lifestyle that is poorly controlled. For example, smoking and lack of exercise can both contribute to obesity. But people with these two habits who make changes in their life can be able to eliminate obesity and thus reduce their risk of a variety of chronic diseases.
Preventing a chronic disease means taking steps to prevent a disease from starting. Chronic diseases can be broken down into four categories: diseases of the immune system, which affect people of all ages; diseases of the digestive system, which affect people of all ages and physical capabilities; diseases of the circulatory system, which affect people of all ages and physical capabilities; and chronic diseases, which affect people of all ages and physical capabilities. It is not always possible to detect a disease before it has begun, so health providers have a responsibility to work with patients to modify behaviors, change habits, and stay healthy.
Some diseases are curable, but have serious consequences. Obesity is one example. It can cause heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Diabetes is a major contributor to osteoporosis, one of the main causes of pain. A stroke can be fatal if not treated.
If a health care provider is concerned about a patient’s overall well-being, he must keep in mind the main goals of the patient’s health care. Family members must be involved in decisions about treating disease prevention. Health providers have a responsibility to consider family members’ feelings and interests when making decisions about a person’s health care.
A health care provider must ask and answer the question, “What is your major concern in your health care?” This question allows the health care provider to determine how important the primary concern is to the patient. Answering this question will allow the health care provider to determine what would make the patient’s health care priority better. There are many different issues to consider when assessing a patient’s primary concern.
Once the patient’s health has been evaluated, the health care provider can examine the various risks of a disease, including the risk factors, and design a plan of action. Using the results of the evaluation, the health care provider will develop a plan of action to address the patient’s primary concern.
Prevention efforts will include the implementation of lifestyle changes, counseling patients on the importance of preventing disease, the management of chronic conditions, and education on the risks of disease. Prevention efforts will also include the use of new technologies and the use of tools that can help patients manage disease prevention. One example of a tool is the use of a person’s Genome Browser to create an atlas of his genetic risks for a particular disease.
With the advancement of technology and knowledge, it is now possible to devise preventive strategies that include all the aspects of the health care system. Prevention is being prioritized in all aspects of the health care system, including the pharmaceutical, health and safety, lifestyle, and economic components of health.
