Your Vision Statement – Using Vision Statements For Team Development

What are you looking for in a Vision Statement? It is the first thing that you and your leadership team will write as part of the team development plan. Your team manager or executive coach will help you develop your Vision Statement. The Vision Statement will be using to describe what you want to accomplish as a team and how you will achieve it. You can give your team guidance on what the Vision Statement should include. You can then begin to give the Vision Statement a structure, a common purpose, and guidance on how to use it to achieve your vision. You will want to make sure that you explain what the Vision Statement is and why it is important to the team.

Give your team an inspiring purpose and vision Create a specific, meaningful purpose for your team and give them a tangible goal. Make sure that the purpose is related to what the team does and why they do it. For example, if your group provides support for people in recovery from drug addiction, create a mission statement that describes what your group does, how it helps, and why your group is special. Give your team members’ specific ways to fulfill their purpose. Make your purpose a goal and then work toward it with your team. Show your team that you respect their goals and what they want to achieve. Explain the value of their goals to you and why you are working with them to achieve them.

Motivate your team. Your Vision Statement can help you identify and reward individuals and teams who are working toward your Vision Statement. You can reward individuals who show promise in accomplishing their purpose, or you can reward teams who show the promise of achieving their goal. Reward motivators such as people who bring in new team members, people who make contributions to the mission, or those who show the potential of team members who aren’t working to meet their goal.
